  1. TITLE:   Opening a Rich Text Format File Produces a Magic Bad Error

  7. Attempting to open a Rich Text Format file in Ami Pro sometimes produces a 
  8. Magic Bad error.
  9.  
  10. SOLUTION:

  12. Opening (importing) a Rich Text Format file or a WordPerfect file containing a 
  13. table in Ami Pro's draft view may produce a Magic Bad error or other 
  14. unpredictable results.  Such files can be opened in Ami Pro by changing to the 
  15. layout view before opening the files.  
  16.  
  17. RECOMMENDATION: Open all Rich Text Format files and WordPerfect files 
  18. containing tables in Ami Pro's layout mode.
  19.  
  20. An updated Rich Text filter (RTF.FLT size 49408 dated 10-21-91) can be 
  21. obtained which will enable you to open, in draft mode, Rich Text Format files 
  22. or WordPerfect files containing tables.  Contact the Lotus Development 
  23. Corporation Word Processing Division Customer Service Department at 404-256-
  24. 2272 and request the Ami Pro release 2.0 filters disk.  This disk contains all 
  25. of the most current filters for Ami Pro release 2.0.  The latest filters for 
  26. Ami Pro 2.0 are also available electronically from the Lotus WPD bulletin 
  27. board at 404-851-1371 and from library 2 Ami and Ami Pro on the LotusWP 
  28. CompuServe forum.  Download the file FILT20.EXE from either location.

  30. HOW TO INSTALL THE UPDATED FILTERS
  31.  
  32.  1. From the Windows Program Manager, run File Manager (there is usually an 
  33.     icon in one of the Windows program groups for the File Manager).
  34.  2. In File Manager, access the drive where the updated filter files are 
  35.     located.  For example, if the files are on a disk in drive A, select the A 
  36.     drive icon.
  37.  3. Select all of the filter file names (they will have an extension of 
  38.     .FLT).
  39.  4. Choose File / Copy.
  40.  5. For the To option, type the complete path to the Ami Pro program directory 
  41.     (this is usually C:\AMIPRO).
  42.  6. Choose COPY.
  43.  7. Press ALT + F4 to close File Manager, then choose OK.
